DRILL PREPARATION
OK SIGN DISTRIBUTION
The city will be printing "OK" signs again to be distributed to residences in Culver City prior to the City Wide Drill on Thursday, October 21st. The signs will be distributed by each NERT in their neighborhood. NERT Coordinators will be responsible for organizing the distribution of "OK" signs in their NERT. Distribution of the signs should not be done earlier than October 9th. The weekend of October 16th and 17th is preferred for distribution.
NERT Coordinators should contact their District Manager as soon as possible with the number of "OK" signs that they anticipate will be needed in their NERT. NERT Coordinators should also work with their NERT Members and District Managers on their NERT's plan for distributing the "OK" signs. NERT Coordinators should contact their District Manager with their plan for distribution by Friday, October 8th. Please contact your District Manager if you need assistance. NERT Coordinators may use their NERT Email List and Phone List to help facilitate communication about the drill with their NERT Members.
District Managers should assist their NERT Coordinators with plans for distributing "OK" signs in their NERT. District Managers also need to contact the Operations Manager, Erik Mayer, as soon as possible with the number of "OK" signs needed in each of their district's NERTs. District Managers are responsible for coordinating the distribution of "OK" signs in NERTs in their district that do not have a NERT Coordinator. District Managers can contact the Operations Manager if there are any issues or additional volunteers, such as Scouts or High School students are needed to assist with distributing "OK" signs in their district.
CERT Members that can help with "OK" sign distribution, should contact their NERT Coordinator.
NERT COORDINATOR DRILL PREPARATIONS
NERT Coordinators need to contact their NERT Members to see who will be available on the night of the drill to count "OK" signs in their NERT. NERT Coordinators also need to review their NERT Staging Area and develop a plan for counting "OK" signs in their NERT on the night of the drill. If help is needed, they should contact their District Manager.
DISTRICT MANAGER DRILL PREPARATIONS
District Managers should work with their district's NERT Coordinators on plans for each of the NERTs in their district. District Managers are responsible for developing a plan for NERTs in their district where there is no NERT Coordinator. Any issues should be discussed with the Operations Manager.
NIGHT OF THE DRILL
CERT MEMBER PARTICIPATION
CERT Members should contact their NERT Coordinator for information about how "OK" signs will be counted in their NERT. If there is no NERT Coordinator, the District Manager should be contacted. The drill starts at 7 PM. Counting of "OK" signs should conclude by 8:15 PM. At that time, CERT Members should reassemble at their NERT Staging Location for instructions on the "Night" Hands On portion of the drill. The drill should conclude by 9:30 PM.
VOLUNTEER PARTICIPATION
Volunteers such as Scouts may be used to supplement CERT Members with counting "OK" signs. High School students may receive Community Service for participating in the drill. We also need volunteers to be "victims" for the hands on portion of the drill after the "OK" signs have been counted. Please go HERE if you would like to help.
CCARES MEMBER PARTICIPATION
CCARES Members should carry out their pre-designated duties during the drill. CCARES Members without an assignment should check-in with the EOC for an assignment.
NERT COORDINATOR RESPONSIBILITIES
NERT Coordinators should use their plan for counting "OK" signs in their NERT and make adjustments to their plan as needed. When all "OK" signs are counted in their NERT, the number of signs counted should be radioed in to their District Manager at their District Staging Area via a CCARES Member in their NERT. If there is not a CCARES Member available, the NERT Coordinator or designee should wait for a CCARES Member to meet them at their NERT Staging Area to get the number of signs counted. If a CCARES Member does not show up by 8:00 PM, the NERT Coordinator should drive to their District Staging Area to give the number of signs counted to their District Manager.
DISTRICT MANAGER RESPONSIBILITIES
District Managers should report to their District Staging Area at the beginning of the drill at 7 PM. District Managers should check in with the Mobile EOC on HAM Radio or via a CCARES Member at their District Staging Area. District Managers should wait at their District Staging Area until all of their NERTs have reported their sign count. District Managers should then contact the Mobile EOC with the sign count of each of their NERTs as they receive them.
